Texas Outrigger Canoe Club was founded in 1987 at Surfside Beach, Texas, by Carleton Kruse, Cheryl and Karan Cleland. TOCC is the first Club on the Western Gulf Coast and compared to the Pacific Clubs we are a relatively new.
Our Club is committed to fostering the Hawaiian Aloha spirit and enjoyment of outrigger canoeing.
We paddle recreationally, we canoe surf and we race. Our races are Sprints in the spring and long distance later in the summer and early fall. The Texas Outrigger Racing Association, has races in Austin, Dallas, and Houston .
We make the most of our location and paddle all year two or three times a week. In spring, summer, fall and a few days in the winter when the conditions are conducive, we head down to Galveston beach to canoe surf and get the big open water experience.
We have raced in Hawaii, California, Oregon, New Hampshire, New York, and Florida. Our usual paddling venue is on Clear Lake out through the Kemah Channel and into Galveston Bay. There is nothing like going out and coming back from a workout, and having fun with your fellow paddlers, yet getting a great over all workout mentally and physically.
Hope to see you out at our Ohana.
